Holiday Card Hell.

Blue Christmas Card

It is that time of year when I start designing ourcard.  In years past, I have done it through iPhoto on my Mac and the results have been very good, if I do say so myself.  Everything from letterpress cards, to custom designed party invites – you name it, I have done it all in iPhoto.  This year, I did the images in Adobe Lightroom, exported them as eight bit TIFF files and then imported them into iPhoto to design the cards.

One problem, I did not like anything that I was creating in iPhoto.  Not a single card prototype excited me.  Then I knew I had a problem.  I knew that my classes in InDesign, typography and graphic design taken this past semester had totally set me up for failure in iPhoto.  I needed to create something of my own.

Cut to me closing iPhoto and launching InDesign, Illustrator and Bridge.  I went from what is normally a relatively simple process to one that would take me a lot longer to complete.  From original graphics, to layout, to photos and the like, it took me the better part of the day to create this card.  Let me repeat that, it took me the better part of the day to create this card.  What was I thinking when I started this little project??
